Forklifts and Forklift Attachments

Find me on:

forklifts and forklift attachmentsSome people think forklift attachments are only for specialized applications like moving big rolls of paper. But the reality is, attachments give your forklift super powers. Like the power to handle up to 12 pallets at once, adjust to different pallet sizes and even handle loads that aren’t even on a pallet.

When used correctly, forklift attachments save time and money. Employees spend fewer man hours operating the forklift and can make adjustments to the lift truck without leaving the operator’s seat.

Most Popular Forklift Attachments

Our most popular forklift attachments include:

Single-Double pallet handler A Single-Double allows one forklift to handle two pallets. This attachment is the most revolutionary thing in the material handling industry in the last fifteen years. Two pallets at once means fewer trips, increased productivity and efficiency.

The Single-Double we carry at TMHNC can navigate down narrow aisles in single-pallet mode, then expand to four forks and handle two pallets. The attachment also includes a Side Shifter to maneuver loads into trucks and containers.

Layer Picker - A Layer Picker is a cost-effective way to handle single or multiple layers of a variety of products. The forklift takes the top layer off one pallet and moves the product elsewhere. One forklift operator can fill orders at an average speed of 1250 cases an hour compared to 250 cases an hour manually.

 - The Push/Pull attachment was introduced by Coors Brewing with the intention of eliminating pallets. Product is loaded onto a slip sheet, then pulled onto forks. push-pull-forklift-attachmentA Push/Pull is typically used with bagged products like seed and cement, cased food, cosmetics and bottled beverages. Another benefit of the Push/Pull is that it offers fast, smooth operation with low energy consumption.

Bale and Carton Clamps - Bale Clamps handle any baled products (paper, plastic, cotton, hay, etc) using long, extendable arms. Carton Clamps have 48” x 48” pads that squeeze then lift the load. Carton Clamps are commonly used to handle applicances, drayage, or for some TMHNC customers: 56 cases of wine.

Carton Clamps are also popular because they eliminate the need for pallets. No pallets means a cleaner environment without wood debris or nails.

Forklift Attachment Safety

Operator Training - A certified forklift operator still needs training on how to safely use an attachment. Attachments change the forklift’s center of gravity and fuel consumption, among other things.

Is Your Lift Truck Ready to Handle a Forklift Attachment? - Depending on the attachment, a lift truck may need to be capable of handling 6,000 lbs or more. Check your lift truck’s capabilities (the data plate is a good place to start) and consult an expert. Also ensure you have a suitable locking device for the attachment and, when applicable, a clamp release interlock device.

Attachments allow a material handling operation to stay competitive by doubling their efficiency, cleaner by avoiding pallets, and provide better customer service by reducing damage to loads. If you’re interested in a forklift attachment, or have questions about whether your existing fleet is equipped to add an attachment, let us know. We also rent forklifts equipped with the following attachments:

Paper Roll Clamp
Carton Clamp
Single Double
