8 Money-Saving Reasons to Run an Eco-Friendly Facility

Green logistics and sustainable warehouse best practices aren’t just good for the environment, they’re good for business. Lowering your energy bills and minimizing waste can also increase profit margins.

Implementing sustainable business practices is easier than you may think. Here's how you can earn more green by going green:

How to Improve Electric Forklift Battery Life

There’s no denying the popularity of electric forklifts.
Compared to a diesel or LPG forklift, electric lift trucks:
 - Can cost less to maintain
- Take up less space (no need to store tanks of propane or diesel)
- Have a smaller carbon footprint
- Are less noisy

However, proper maintenance is key to maximize the efficiency of an electric forklift. In this post, we’ll review forklift battery options (lead acid versus lithium ion), battery charging options, and other ways to improve forklift efficiency.

Review: Toyota Electric Pneumatic Forklift

Product Name:  Electric Pneumatic Forklift (EPF)
Manufacturer: Toyota
Lift Capacity:  4000-11,000 lbs.
Notable feature(s):  (SAS) System of Active Stability, available in 36, 48, 80-volt variants
Price Range: $20k - $80K
Value for the money: Excellent

Best for: Toyota's rugged Electric Pneumatic Forklift is made for outdoor applications such as agriculture, brick, block, concrete, lumber, pipe and many more. Because it runs on clean power, the truck can also be used indoors and is adaptable for a variety of different operation sizes.

Not recommended for:  In a large yard where the forklift operates remotely, valuable time can be lost bringing the truck in to swap batteries.

When to Use an Electric Vs. Propane Forklift

Choosing the best forklift for your business isn’t easy, even for experienced buyers. You have to decide between new vs. used, Toyota vs. the other guys, and of course fuel type.

One of the more common questions we get from forklift buyers is, “should I go with an electric or LP forklift?”
  • Both are clean and quiet compared to gas or diesel
  • Electric forklifts cost more upfront but have a lower cost of ownership overall
  • Changing a propane tank is easier than changing a battery, but electric battery tech has come along way. Many two-shift operations only need one battery

So which one is better? It all depends on your operation...

Forklift Repair and Emergency Service

If your forklift breaks down:
First - move it to an isolated area (if possible)
Next - get some basic details (make, model and serial number)
Then - call for service. We serve Northern California 24/7 at  (800) 539-2052)
24/7 Service

Additional details, like the machine's service history, can help the technician get to the root of the problem faster. Learn more about what to expect when you request mobile forklift repair.

Forklift Maintenance and Repair - When to Call a Professional

As a Product Support Rep (PSR) I hear a lot of horror stories from customers who try to maintain their own forklifts. Even worse: some customers just wait for something to break.

On average, the cost to repair a forklift is four times higher than the cost to properly maintain the equipment. Depending on the repair, the cost can be up to 15 times more expensive than what the customer would have spent on a service plan  once you factor in downtime.

I recently had a customer spend $35,000 on a five-year-old forklift, all because they didn’t maintain it correctly. They only called us for repairs and major failures. This truck moved heavy loads all day and never got more than an oil change.

Toyota Forklifts are built like a tank, but with lack of maintenance any forklift becomes a ticking time bomb. Every machine has its limits. In this post, we’ll talk about:

- what maintenance is okay to do yourself,
- when to call a professional
...and the real way to save money on maintenance and repairs.

4 Expensive Forklift Repairs and How to Prevent Them

Forklifts and other material handling equipment are rugged machines, built to work hard, but they’re not invincible. All too often we end up doing expensive repairs on equipment that could have been avoided had the machine been properly maintained.

Your equipment is an investment and proper maintenance will help you maximize its value. Many problems start out small; catch them early and avoid a big pain in your checkbook. Wait too long and it’s going to cost you: time, labor, and productivity.

But you can benefit from the mistakes of others. Below are a few recent examples - from real TMHNC customers - of four expensive repairs that could have been prevented.
